
National Salvation Army Week May 12-18, 2008
Did you know The Salvation Army is at work in more than 113 countries around the world battling poverty, hunger, disease, abuse, loneliness and other enemies of mankind? Whether across the ocean or in your own backyard, The Salvation Army is “Doing the Most Good” by restoring hope to countless men, women and children who have no where else to turn. In recognition of The Salvation Army’s sacrificial service the second full week of May has been designated National Salvation Army week. Contact your local Salvation Army to see how you can make a difference and help celebrate National Salvation Army week.  We Remember  In honor of those who have gone before us, The Salvation Army will hold a memorial service on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. The service will be held in The Salvation Army area of the Glen Oak Cemetery. All are invited to attend.

Building Character For over a century The Salvation Army has provided programs to help boys and girls develop into responsible adults. Guards and Sunbeams for girls and Adventure Corps for boys encourage kids to become helpful, self-confident, mindful of the environment and better stewards of the gifts they’ve been given. In recognition of these programs May 19-23 has been named National Guard, Sunbeam and Adventure Corps week. Kroc Centers in the Midwest In 2004, Joan Kroc, wife of McDonalds' founder Ray Kroc, bequeathed The Salvation Army with a $1.5 billion gift, the largest individual philanthropic gift to a single organization. The funds are to be used to construct and develop world-class recreational, educational and ministry centers that will provide life-enriching, if not life-altering, possibilities to people from all walks of life.
