Natural Disasters

The Haiti earthquakes, Chile earthquakes, tornados in Oklahoma, volcano eruptions in Iceland, flooding in Tennessee and of course the global economy slump. These are the obstacles that God has given us to overcome. Obstacles that will undoubtedly make us stronger and love our fellow man a little more once we have come together to remedy them. The Salvation Army has been working since 1880 to show communities the power of God’s will through our Emergency Disaster Services team. Since 1904, The Salvation Army has been a place where hope, comfort, and love are found. The Salvation Army’s motivation for ministry is simply: Jesus Christ! You may recognize us only through the Family thrift stores or the Red Kettles at Christmas, but The Salvation Army is an International Movement, whose ministry extends into 111 countries and began in 1865. Our mission is to share God’s love with all people and to meet human need in His name without discrimination.

The Bible says: “To go into all the world and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I (Jesus Christ) have commanded you(Mathew 28:18-20a).

And

“What does it profit, my brother, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead” (James 2:14-17).

The Salvation Army looks forward to the opportunities ahead to minister and serve our great community. We pray and hope that The Salvation Army will continue to be a beacon of hope for all who are in need.
