Released 28 August 2009
Wauwatosa - AM Radio station 1290 WMCS and
The Salvation Army of Greater Milwaukee are teaming up again this year for the
20th Annual Christmas Family Feast. The event takes place on Friday, December
25, 2009 from 11:00 to 2:30pm at the Midwest Airlines Center, 400 W. Wisconsin
Avenue. On Christmas Day 2008 over 500 volunteers dedicated their time to
serve Christmas dinners to more than 7,000 Milwaukee County individuals.
"The Christmas Family Feast is more than a holiday event,
it's a Milwaukee tradition. What started out 20 years ago as a dinner to feed
those in need has evolved into a Milwaukee holiday tradition for those who want
to share in the holiday spirit with others, and for those individuals and
families who want to give back to the community. Last year we hosted a record
7,012 individuals for the Christmas Family Feast. This year we expect to serve
nearly 10,000 people on Christmas Day. We have 120 days to complete our
planning for this year's event, and we are truly going to need our local
businesses and corporate partners to dig deep to ensure another successful
Christmas Family Feast," said event planner Don Rosette.
"The Christmas Family Feast is for everyone. The Salvation
Army is proud to have been a partner with 1290 WMCS for the last 20 years.
Christmas is a wonderful time of year, however for many in our community the
holidays can be challenging. Factor in the economic crisis and you see many
that will benefit from the kindness shown at this year's event," said Major
Jesse G. Collins, Salvation Army Milwaukee County Commander.
The 120 day countdown will consist of Christmas Family Feast
radio news updates and vignettes, recruiting volunteers, free bus pass
distribution days and securing food & monetary donations.

Feast call Carolyn Spinks at 414-444-1290, to volunteer sign up on-line or call

33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year
through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food
for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled,
outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and
opportunities for underprivileged children. About 87 cents of every dollar
raised is used to support those services in nearly 9,000 communities
nationwide.
