recognition of National Salvation Army Week The Salvation Army will host a
celebration and appreciation luncheon to honor volunteers who provide service
and support to programs helping families in need.

WHY: National
Salvation Army Week events across the country highlight the importanceof
Americans giving back to their local communities to support their neighborsin
need. The very first National Salvation Army Week was declared by President
Dwight D. Eisenhower between November 18 and December 4, 1954 as a reminder to
Americans that they should give freely of themselves.
Though the
dates have changed,the work of The Salvation Army has not. Since The
Salvation Armybegan its social service work in the United States in 1880, the
organization has grown into one of the largest social service provides in the
country ,directly supporting nearly 30 million Americans each year, through a
