LeRoy Butler, Salvation Army Red Kettle Honorary Chair to Host Coat & Toy Drive Saturday

Wauwatosa, WI  (December 14, 2012)  LeRoy Butler, famed Green Bay Packer and Lambeau Leap inventor will host a new coat and toy drive to benefit The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County on Saturday, December 15 at Southridge Mall, 5300 S. 76th St, near the food court from 9-11 a.m. The first 100 people who donate a new toy and coat will receive an autographed LeRoy Butler cookbook; one giveaway per person.  Make a donation of either a toy or a coat and receive a coupon for a free Wendy’s frosty and a Salvation Army Brass Christmas CD while supplies last.

leroybutlerButler, who is the Honorary Chairman of the Army’s Red Kettle campaign has his own fond memories of the Salvation Army, “I remember getting my first pair of new shoes from The Salvation Army when I was a kid.  I also remember growing up in poverty in the projects of Jacksonville, Florida. My mother instilled in me the importance of giving back, that’s why I founded the LeRoy Butler Foundation to help Cancer victims and that’s why I am proud to be the honorary chair for The Salvation Army, to help families and children in need.  It’s important to me to help others, especially children.”

Major Roger Ross, Salvation Army Milwaukee County Commander said, “We have seen a steady increase of new families coming to us for assistance.  This year more than 3,500 families applied for Christmas assistance.  Of that, more than half are new families applying for help. Toy and coat drives are critical to helping us provide 10,000 children gifts this Christmas.”

In 2011 The Salvation Army provided 100,000 toys to children living in Milwaukee County.
