Ozarks' residents asked to donate nonperishable food items

2012 Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

Springfield, MO (May 3, 2012) Ozarks residents are needed to help "Stamp Out Hunger" on Saturday May 12th during the 20th Annual National Association of Letter Carriers' "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive.

On this day, residents are asked to simply place a bag of nonperishable food items near their mailbox then their letter carrier will pick it up and ensure that it gets delivered to a local food pantry.

Last year, Ozarks residents donated more than 131,000 pounds of food. The Salvation Army, Victory Mission, The Kitchen and Grand Oaks Mission will receive the donated food and distribute it to local residents in need.

The ‘Stamp Out Hunger' food drive is one of The Salvation Army's largest food drives of the year and will hopefully help keep its Emergency Food Pantry stocked during the Summer months - when donations are typically down, but demand is up.

In addition to nonperishable food donations, The Salvation Army will also need volunteers to help with this event. Volunteers will be needed from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday May 12th to help sort and pack the donated food. This is a great volunteer opportunity for families, businesses, organizations and student groups!

To sign-up to volunteer or for more information about this event please call (417) 862-5509 ext. 116 or email audrey_esther@usc.salvationarm
