Just Can It 2009 Feeds The Hungry
This year the Just Can It event was held at Crossroads Mall 74th & Dodge Street from April 13th - April 16th 2009. Twelve cardboard structures were built by the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity along with The Salvation Army's Hotel Hope.
No Frills Supermarkets and Tenaska Business Park contributed food and money from April 1st - April 16th putting this event over the top. Farmers National won the business park food challenge. Mayflower Moving & Storage placed two SAM portable units for the event, supplied all the cardboard needed to build these structures, dropped off and picked up 50 barrels at the Tenaska Business park for their challenge.
Just Can It was featured on Good Morning America's Ameri Can segment on Thursday April 16th 2009. Channel's 6, 7 & 42 covered it on their news programs. Channel 94.1 radio station covered it over the air and Twister 93.3 came out on Thursday doing a live remote from the cardboard village.
17,212 non perishable food items were collected
$1,200.00 was raised by No Frills Round It Up campaign
$388.75 was raised by Creighton University Clean up for Hunger day April 18th
Scouting for food raised 1,000 cans
$1050.00 was raised by Tenaska in addition to the food purchased and donated by employees
$200.00 has been raised internally with Casual for a Cause since April 1st and will continue until May 29th.
