You are in: stories » What Jane is going THRU
Jane was a resident of The Salvation Army's Transitional Housing Residential Unit (THRU) Program. Prior to the THRU Program, Jane resided in The Salvation Army's 37th Street Readiness Program. Jane is homeless because she was evicted from her home due to lack of income. She is a single parent of two teenagers and suffers from a severe and persistent mental illness.
While in the THRU Program, Jane was able to pay off a $1400.00 outstanding debt owed to a utility company in addition to a couple other outstanding bills. Goals were created and Jane made tremendous progress in the following areas: parenting skills, mental health stability, housekeeping, budgeting and utilizing resources in the community. With the assistance of outside resources and services provided by The Salvation Army, Jane saved money in an escrow account and was able to transition into The Salvation Army's Scattered Site Housing Program, which provides her and her children with a two bedroom home in the community, as well as, case management.
After completing the Scattered Site program, Jane will have the skills necessary to successfully live in independent housing and provide a stable and secure home for her teenagers.
