A STORY ON HOW THE SALVATION ARMY TOUCHED A LIFE...
At 15 years of age, he was stationed in post-WWII Germany. Just a child, J.R. soon became a man as he was exposed to a completely new world.
J.R. followed the lead of men much older than he was, falling into the habits of drinking, smoking and gambling. "If you didn't do it, you weren't considered a man," he says. But J.R. was also becoming a man he was not proud to be.
After he was released from the Army, J.R. continued living this dangerous lifestyle. He became an alcoholic, barely making it from day to day. He had lost direction in his life.
But 10 years ago, J.R. found that direction when he moved into the Durham Booth Manor. He found faith in God as he overcame the troubles of his past. Today, J.R. carries a Bible with him everywhere he goes, not only to remind him of where he's been, but to give hope to everyone who crosses his path.
